The evolution of the plastics industry over the last 10 - 20 years has been rather substantial, and in the coming decade, manufacturing pressures will only intensify further as plastics manufacturers’ ability to reinvent themselves remains pivotal both for the survival of the industry and for consumer’s ever growing appetite for better products.

The dynamic side to the industry is dealt by many but there are still challenges when it comes to monitoring those that help keep the industry going, as business owners may have to deal with low motivation levels and indifference in the quality of work employees produce. The lack of knowledge regarding both the material and machinery can prove to be a hindrance, as employees can be ill equipped to fully grasp what is required from them. Even at entry level positions, the employee’s ability to understand what is required in terms of producing a quality product for shipping is vital for the growth of an organisation. While the employee may have the will and intention to learn and do well in their position, without the correct training the employee will not be able to convert their intention into the desired results without excessive trial and error occurrences.

Employers who may feel that training will empower their employers to seek alternative employment and therefore a waste of money should consider that training your employee is less costly than trying to run a business with untrained personal. If no one wants your employees, then perhaps you are stuck with an inferior personal draining your resources ultimately costing your company more in terms or resources.

Therefore by definition, training is a formal process by which a person acquires knowledge, skills and competencies, however in practice, training at its core is the ultimate motivational tool that every company needs to invest in. A knowledgeable employee (with the right attitude) is an asset to any company. Adequately training your workforce will help create a culture in which the employee cares and contributes to the business, thus the employee is more motivated and excited about their work as they understand what they do matters to the success of the organisation.

Companies can demonstrate their commitment to employees and enhance employee motivation by investing in employee training. The change in attitude will be the initial changed view as employees value the investment in their development. The employee will be more vocal when they view incorrect practices and will be better equipped to troubleshoot small faults before it becomes a costly problem. Thus, illustrating the important relationship between training and motivation
